Les Mortes is a musical saga, a sort of investigation that is doomed to fail, literally drowning in a maze of nebulous stories. Three groups of instruments strive to make sense of it through their own interpretation of various fragments of the narrative. Inspired by Roberto Bolaño’s fiction and his use of fragmentation as a means of deriving and expanding, these lacunal compositions revolve around a void, an absence, their many strands becoming entangled in the process. Composer and improviser Benoît Moreau proposes a context of collaborative musical writing, based on fragments of music that evolve into a concentric spiral.
