In Coro, Berio places forty pairs of singers and instrumentalists in a carefully tailored spatial arrangement, allowing for a rich dialogue to unfold between vocal and instrumental sounds – mirrored by the close collaboration between the students from the Haute école de musique de Genève, Contrechamps, and the Zürcher Sing-Akademie choir. Infused with references to folk music, Coro shifts between song, melody, variation, and polyphony to form an epic, contrasted and multi-layered narrative.
