Time Becoming

Bryn Harrison's music titillates the subjective nature of your perception and auditory memory. He quickly realised that repetition and the passage of time influence our perception both philosophically and psychologically, and that the way we listen to music may not be as complicated as it seems.

On first listen, this album is utterly disconcerting. How can music be so ethereal, leaving no room for any attempt to circumscribe it intellectually? However, once this state of suspension is accepted, the listening experience becomes pure bliss and its apprehension, an invitation for the mind to discover unexplored, abstract and sometimes dark territories. This is as true of this album as it is of its music, as evidenced by the quotation chosen by the composer for the album cover: "You never bathe in the same river twice" (Heraclitus).

For the occasion, Time Becoming brings together two internationally renowned ensembles: the Ensemble Plus-Minus from London and the Ensemble Contrechamps from Geneva, conducted respectively by Mark Knoop and Vimbayi Kaziboni, both recorded in surround sound in the unique acoustics of the Zaragoza auditorium. The album places the listener at the centre of the stage - as if between the conductor and the musicians. Whether listened to through headphones, on a standard stereo system or through a spatialized listening device, there is no more beautiful music than Bryn Harrison's for such an immersive listening experience.
